commercials that annoy the heck out of you

Category: Let's talk

Post 1 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 8:10:20

Two commercials spring to mind as I start this topic. Has anyone seen the one for Vonage, that free phone service that claims to be $24 a month? It's on all the time. Then there's the other one for digital phone. I just wish those would just go away.

Post 2 by Juliet (move over school!) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 8:59:15

The Vonage one annoies the hell out of me as well, then there's those they decide to show once in a blue moon having to do with housing descrimination where several people call looking for the same apartment and are told either it's no longer available or it's been rented, but a third caller calls in and all of a sudden the apartment becomes available.

Post 3 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 9:20:42

The peugot ads with the dancing robot car, it's infuriating as my
2.5yr old son, loves it.

Ads from ambulance chasing lawyers,
Encouraging greed is sickening. Flashing 15-20,000 quid on the screen when the "injury" was invariably self inflicted.

Post 4 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 16:49:50

the one for shila's wheels. it's got this really anoying song to it, and it's one of those ones you can't forget in a hurry

Post 5 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 17:05:59

smiles Never seen those before. lol

Post 6 by Juliet (move over school!) on Thursday, 22-Mar-2007 8:08:54

Another one that gets to me is the never-ending peptobismal comercials they seem to always show at the same time every afternoon. I can't think of the description for it at the moment, but they literally name about every stomach issue known to man, and they always seem to know right when I'm eating my lunch in the afternoon, because that's practicly when they always show it.

Post 7 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 22-Mar-2007 11:38:48

Ah yes.
Naucia, heartburn, indigestion, diaria!

Post 8 by Juliet (move over school!) on Thursday, 22-Mar-2007 12:05:02

Yeah, and the scary thing is, you can usually always tell when that comercial is about to start playing because it has such off-the-wall sound affects at the beginning of it.

Post 9 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Thursday, 22-Mar-2007 22:47:49

I hate that one with a passion! Don't forget upset stomac . a lovely topic to discuss over lunch (being sarcastic with that last remark)

Post 10 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Friday, 23-Mar-2007 0:12:09

Certain ones like the saralee commercial and the plug it in thing, it gives me nightmares, like someone's gonna attack me or something. I don't know why this happens, I turn the channel.

Post 11 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 23-Mar-2007 19:06:17

I just heard one a few minutes ago. It's the commercial for The Lullaby Shop. The damn jingle they made for it gets stuck in my head every time I hear it. Argh!

Post 12 by guitargod1 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Saturday, 24-Mar-2007 17:39:45

Head on, applied directly to the forehead, Head on, applied directly to the forehead, Head on, applied directly to the forehead,
That commercial is terrible. But, it's brilliant marketing. I'd like to find the guy who thought it up, tell him he's a genius, then break his damn jaw. ha.

Post 13 by Rune Knight (Ancient Demon - Darkness will always conquer Light!) on Saturday, 24-Mar-2007 18:09:13

I think the skittles leaque commercial is pretty damn stupid. Anyone ever seen that one?

Post 14 by Juliet (move over school!) on Saturday, 24-Mar-2007 18:58:24

There's one of many radio ads here that are actually extremely old, but they still play them after the station goes automated that is supposed to be a comical thing that talks about preserving the earth that at one point cracked me up, but now I not only find annoying, but the voices they use scare the hell out of me. One of the guys has a real raspy voice, and he and his sidekick he calls "Master," several sinarios in which one would be "wasting energy." It was a really well-thought-up ad, but I personally thing they could've done without the raspy voices they used for it.

Post 15 by Senior (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 25-Mar-2007 19:49:49

I can't stand the commercials in the UK which basically amount to government propoganda. There's one about a home information pack with two women who are supposed to be in some cafeteria, yet it sounds so silent they could be in a house on their own. There's a lot of adverts about using condoms which have had no impact. There are adverts now about climate change, and there are also all of the health adverts. I'd remove the lot of them. If people want to be unhealthy, let them. They are free to make their own decisions, just don't allow them to have free treatment if their illnesses are their fault. That covers the sex without a condom adverts which are so unrealistic anyway. I should mention here the one which is on the radio and set in a pub. It begins "have a look around". How can we, it's on the radio. If it was TV then that beginning would have more legitimacy.

Post 16 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 26-Mar-2007 19:33:02

I hate that commercial about Head-on. It's incredibly annoying. Poster 12, if and when you find the person who created it, can you take me with you when you "break his damn jaw"? I can hold his arms so he can't struggle. lol

Post 17 by guitargod1 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 26-Mar-2007 23:42:38

hahah! Yeah. sure. We'll give him a real headache. Then he can test his own product. hehe.

Post 18 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Tuesday, 27-Mar-2007 1:47:43

All right! lol

Post 19 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Tuesday, 27-Mar-2007 1:55:27

I also hate those damn commercials you see for Guyco insurance, or however the hell you spell it. They're really annoying.

Post 20 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Wednesday, 28-Mar-2007 8:31:45

There is 1 here that shows a computer image of thick brown ear wax, which looks for all the world, like shit.

It's disgusting and I'm never grateful for the description.

Post 21 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 28-Mar-2007 9:20:24

Which one is that? sounds nasty

Post 22 by sparkie (the hilljack) on Sunday, 01-Apr-2007 21:25:25

The vonage is annoying as well as the head on. I'm sure there's more just can't think of them right now.

Post 23 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 02-Apr-2007 1:42:46

The Good Start Supreme baby formula commercial annoys me too. It's cute, but after a while, it gets on your nerves.

Post 24 by tunedtochords (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 02-Apr-2007 3:18:33

The Musinex ones, where the gunk in your nose/chest talks... that is just disgusting.

Post 25 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 02-Apr-2007 4:53:47

That is really nasty. I can see where it's gross. Ugh!

Post 26 by dream lady (move over school!) on Monday, 16-Apr-2007 7:20:37

Hi. Well, what about that one that talks about restless leg syndrome? You know, the guy says, "Sue, come to bed already
! " I mean, it sounds so stupid. I laugh everytime I hear it. And then there's the ones advertising life insurance. Or the ones like someone said, which advertise stuff for stomach ailments. I'm eating dinner, when one comes on, and I lose my appetite. lol . That's just a few of the ones I can name.

Post 27 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 16-Apr-2007 11:30:01

Yeah, I agree with you on all of those.

Post 28 by Nitara (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 17-Apr-2007 11:57:29

I wish they'd stop making the cave man commercials. It's getting very old.

Post 29 by retrieverdog (when I'm in seventh hour, my work does show.) on Thursday, 19-Apr-2007 17:35:52

those ones that have no words. gurhrhrhrhrhrhr

Post 30 by The Giggling Cowboy (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 04-May-2007 19:54:35

This one is only in the states, I'm sure, but it's for a retirement community in Florida called "The Villages" and the jingle for it is annoying as hell...makes me want to run screaming. LOL!

Post 31 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Saturday, 05-May-2007 5:50:37

my number 1 hated commercial...

"I'm thinking of a number between" two numbers. "It happens to be my credit score, and it happens to be 720."
Dunno if the rest of you get that, they've got a different commercial for it now. but Christ!
and there was one when I was younger, about hard limonade or something? Anyway, it show's this fat dude's stomach, and it's talking to me! Crazy commercial people.

Post 32 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Saturday, 05-May-2007 14:09:13

that one commercial where this guy's talking to a therapist, or something, and he's complaining about the phrase, "so easy, a caveman can do it." I wish that one would go off the air.

Post 33 by reclusive thinker (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 05-May-2007 16:46:30

Well, the commercials that make me want to smash my tv are the ads for prescription drugs. I mean, all day long it's talk to your doctor about this and talk to your doctor about that, and high cholesterol, high blood pressure, erectile dysfunction, etc. Like we've become a nation of hypochondriacs, and everyone is supposed to have a doctor that they go to with some regularity. I particularly hate the commercials for antidepressants and anxiety drugs, which assert dogmatically that these problems are caused by a chemical imbalance, as if this has been scientifically established once and for all and there are no longer any credible alternatives to the medical/psychiatric view of the human condition.

Now, I haven't been to a doctor since 1976. I have no idea what my blood pressure or cholesterol levels are. I get anxious and depressed at times because there is a lot to get anxious and depressed about if you're not a damn fool with a head full of inspirational happytalk, but I think the best cure for depression is to find someone who needs some help and see what you can do for them. As for sexual potency, I wish they would invent something to turn it off for awhile. It would give me more time to read.

Post 34 by Gilman Gal (A billy Gilman fan forever and always!!) on Saturday, 05-May-2007 21:39:48

that head on thing! I hate that thing! I mean come on! I think we get it already! god! and there's this one, that it's supposed to be about cars, but the song, just freaks me out! I mean it sounds like... I don't know, a vuedue thing!

Post 35 by Gilman Gal (A billy Gilman fan forever and always!!) on Saturday, 05-May-2007 21:43:59

oh yeah, and that stupid geco thing! my god! can we get anymore lame?

Post 36 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Sunday, 06-May-2007 10:46:26

wain wright comercials...he gets on my nerves!

Post 37 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 06-May-2007 11:24:23

I agree on the Gaiko commercials, especially the newer ones with the talking geko. Although they were dumb I did like the ones where another subject would come up and at the end the person would say "But I have good news ... I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Gaiko." I mean, you knew that would happen after the first time of watching/hearing it, but the situations and the fact that you really would've expected them to say something else at first were funny to me. I also don't like the cave man commercials, and the Wayne Wright commercial where this guy was in an accident and because he is now disabled, he can''t work and is having a hard time getting his Social Security benifitss, until he calls Wayne Wright. That commercial actually makes me mad, and I'm glad either it doesn't play as often anymore or I just haven't been watching at the right times. Also, we have one where,, supposedly, the government is selling houses, and I don't know exactly, but it is made to seem like an important announcement, no music, action, or anything, just an announcement-like man's voice talking about that. I honestly think that one's a scam or something, because on the radio one, people whose names start with A thru N (I believe), must call them that same day, and people whose name start with O-Z must call tomorrow, and since that commercial comes on every day, it makes no sense.

Post 38 by lauralou (Account disabled) on Sunday, 20-May-2007 1:11:42

well, i just think this one is funny, anyone hear the one about enzite? "bob is happy." ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, and there was this one that i only saw once, about viagra, it was pretty funny though

Post 39 by japanimangel1 (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 20-Jul-2007 10:15:51

Mine have to be the new hands in your pocket one for capital one. The one thats like "we've got bankers, but we can set traps if you like' Then it goes on to talk about how important it is to get capital one's credit cards. Then there's the pepto one which people hae previously mentioned. There was one on this past christmas for a local fernature store here and they played it during every tv break and this little kid was all "santa? is that really youuuu?" Super annoying. I think those are probably the most annoying ones. For the person who hated guyco, I relaly like that one! The geco kinda makes my day. lol!

Post 40 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 20-Jul-2007 23:38:36

Whoever made the jingle for The Lullaby Shop commercial needs to get a life. lol It's stuck in my head as I write.

Post 41 by YankeeFanForLife! (Picapiedra: king of the boards!) on Saturday, 21-Jul-2007 0:44:55

Post 42 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Saturday, 21-Jul-2007 22:45:53

OMg, can't stand that one, can't think of anymore at the moment

Post 43 by American James (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 23-Jul-2007 17:35:29

I can't stand the commercial that talks about driving a Lexon all around the country. It's quite annoying.

Post 44 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Monday, 23-Jul-2007 19:02:16

I don't know which commercials these are, but I don't like the ones where a song is used where a girl is singing it. An example is the Beatles' "Hello, Goodbye." I don't know; maybe I don't like her voice, but songs like that.

Post 45 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Monday, 23-Jul-2007 19:25:09

I don't like those commercials that advertise drugs for everything under the sun, but they have more simptums than what it's supposed to cure.
Oh and "have you been enjured in a car accident call" and it's usually a loyer firm with 2 of the same names.
The really anoying ones are the ones that say "call the number on the screen." What number!

Post 46 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 23-Jul-2007 19:59:43

It's there. I just don't give a fuck what it's for. lol hate those sorts of commercials that have something close to the end of it where it says, "and if you call within the next ten minutes we'll ..." I just flip the channel when one comes on.

Post 47 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Sunday, 26-Aug-2007 0:43:51

Those E Harmany commercials are really anoying.

Post 48 by YankeeFanForLife! (Picapiedra: king of the boards!) on Sunday, 26-Aug-2007 0:53:55

bender and bender I think that, that is the one about the lawyers. Or some crap like that.

Post 49 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Sunday, 26-Aug-2007 0:55:50

Isn't that Morgan And Morgan? Their thing is "For the People."

Post 50 by YankeeFanForLife! (Picapiedra: king of the boards!) on Sunday, 26-Aug-2007 0:57:42

Hmmm well hun, they are all about the same crap!

Post 51 by Miss Prism (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 26-Aug-2007 8:55:18

All those commercials which portray men as being helpless over-grown children who can't cope with household matters and their own kids are insulting to men, just as the old commercials were which painted women as empty-headed little dolls.

But it's not a TV ad which irritates me most, it's the radio spots for "Family... isn't it about time?" Yep, you guessed it, Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Particularly, their spot with the mom and little boy, where the mom is harassing the poor 8 year old kid (I'm guessing his age) about a girl friend! She keeps asking him if there isn't some special girl at school who he likes. At first he says no, but she keeps pushing. He sounds rreally ill at ease with this interrogation, and finally admits that there's a girl, but I get the feeling that he's just made it up to appease her. I loathe this commercial! Why encourage such young children to grow up prematurely? And that only scratches the surface of why I can't stand these commercials.

I dislike all of their ads. There was another one about a guy, a cab driver who is caught skiving off work to go see his little precious in a school play, or something, and the boss okayed this! Give me a break!

Post 52 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 26-Aug-2007 9:41:36

never heard of those, but they do sound annoying.

Post 53 by Miss Gorgeous (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Thursday, 06-Sep-2007 12:40:55

Some camercials that irritate me are those that does not make sense, those that are played repeatedly, and those that have unrelated themes to what they were supposed to advertise.

Post 54 by Hilikme (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 06-Sep-2007 14:38:49

Hahaha Head on... cruel genius... Anyone else here the Gilbert Gottfried version of that commercial they did on Lenno? It was absolutely hilarious, something like "The only way they could make this commercial worse".

I can't stand the commercials for Iams, eukanuba, Beneful, etc. mainly because they're overplayed to death, and partly because it's all bullshit.

For some reason I can't stand the Tim Hortons radio commercials here, just...ugh "You are kickin' it new school!!!" *shudder*.

CNIB commercials anyone? Those bug me too. Not sure if it's simply the actual commercials, or if it's the fact it's CNIB in general.

Those ones with no talking at all are annoying too, as well as the capital one commercials...

And basically any commercials played while you're on hold with Starchoice... but that's probably just because I got to listen to all 8 of them repeated over and over for an hour.

Post 55 by soaring eagle (flying high again!) on Tuesday, 11-Sep-2007 14:20:36

any advertisment that doesn't tell you the phone number or give any type of clue what the heck its about. Many times I have wanted to order something only not to have the number spoken. oh yeah darn tired of gigo

Post 56 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Tuesday, 11-Sep-2007 14:37:49

i hate the current shreddies advert in the UK, the one with the nannas knitting the shreddies, what a pile of shite!

Post 57 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 04-Oct-2007 14:09:05

I find the Shiela's Wheels advertizement annoying that we have in England and also the Mark's and Spenscer's one. I don't know if they're on anymore, but I found them annoying.

Post 58 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 12-Oct-2007 9:55:07

Are there any more advertizements that people find annoying? I find all the ones that come on in between parts of a t programme I'm watching really annoying, because it messes up whatever your watching and they always put adverts on when it gets to the interesting bit.

Come on people! You don't have to stop writing just becaus I've posted on here! Hahaha!
